The United States Embassy in San José, Costa Rica, is where Paul and Amanda Kirby unsuccessfully lobbied for a rescue operation to save their son Eric, who had become stranded on Isla Sorna following a parasailing accident. This led them to hire a team of mercenaries for security and essentially kidnap Alan Grant and Billy Brennan so that they could mount their own rescue.
The US Embassy in Costa Rica is but one of dozens of embassies that the United States has located all over the world. At the time of the Kirby’s rescue operation, the US Ambassador to Costa Rica was Thomas J. Dodd, Jr., who had formerly served as the Ambassador to Uruguay in South America.
