Tyrannosaurus rex is a species of very large theropod dinosaur in the family Tyrannosauridae. It originally lived during the Maastrichtian stage of the late Cretaceous period, between 68 and 66 million years ago. Fossils are found in western North America. This is the only known species in the genus Tyrannosaurus.
