The stainless-steel shock prods were part of the non-fatal weapons supplied for the control of the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar. When Dr. Alan Grant and companions Ellie Sattler and Donald Gennaro explored the Velociraptor nest, they brought some of the shock prods. When asked, Robert Muldoon explained that the shock prods had “an explosive capacitor tip” which “delivers a shock on impact” that is “not fatal, but definitely incapacitating” (372). When entering the nest, Grant was handed a shock stick by Ellie. Later, when Gennaro balked at the idea of counting the animals, Muldoon threatened him with one of the shock prods. Grant also prepared to use one of the prods on an adult Velociraptor that gets too close to Ellie, but it left before he had to shock it.
