Celebrating Sue the T. rex! A Colossal Fossil!

Come and discuss the subject of science - specifically biology, geology, and related subjects in those fields! The whole forum is dedicated to the actual research that the field of paleontology uncovers about our natural world all the way from the beginning, to now, and hopefully someday even beyond.

Celebrating Sue the T. rex! A Colossal Fossil!

Post by Dinos4Ever »

Come one, come all! Step right up and see the grandest Tyrannosaurus rex that ever lived! Her name is FMNH PR-2081, or Sue to most of us, and she measured 42ft long, 13ft tall, and weighed over 9 tons! She's the biggest T. rex we know of, and the oldest too, dieing at the ripe old age of 28. So gather round for a (not so brief) illustrated history of the dinosaur we all love: SUE!

Sue's story goes on, now in her own private suite near the rest of the Cretaceous creatures! :D

Somewhere in my collection of discs and floppies I have an educational computer game called I See Sue (I think?) that focuses on Sue. It's narrated by Danny Tamberelli (of Pete & Pete fame). :P

Sue has (or had?) an official Twitter account too. It's kind of chaotic though, not really my cup of tea.

Yeah, I had that computer game too. I never played it much, but I did find it kind of enjoyable. I still remember the theme song at the start of it.

And yes, Sue has a Twtter account. I love the snark and commentary they have.

Here's me at 8 years old meeting Sue for the first time!! I had seen other Rex skeletons before but seeing Sue easily had the biggest impact on me.

Note: thanks to my mother for preserving this photo as I had long thought that it was gone for good

I wish they sold a 1/18 model for her, but I use the Dino-Riders edition of the BOTM Rex as her anyway. I know the PNSO "Cameron" model and Halongood are supposed to be mostly based on Sue. PNSO Cameron also comes with a small resin skull of Sue as well.

Yes! I noticed the same when they were showing off the life sized reconstruction at the Field Museum!

Nice! I made these ones. It's amazing what you learn about an animal in 20 years.

Absolutely, and I'm happy to say that I'll be seeing her again when me and my family visit Chicago this July.
