Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Cray Supercomputers is world renowned for its advanced computing power. Its history beginning in 1972 with Seymour Cray, the first supercomputer was installed in 1976 for $8.8 million and could run an 8 MB memory. Though not much by standards now, it was an incredible memory bank at the time. Since then, Cray has always updated and improved and by the 1990’s it had unrivaled computing power and had created its first mini-supercomputer the Cray XMS.
