The cholinesterase bomb was brought to Isla Sorna by Ian Malcolm. It was part of a kit of non-lethals, to be used to deter dinosaurs without upsetting the natural order. The bomb is described as being a silver cylinder and about the size and shape of a small oxygen bottle, with a cap and a locking pin at one end. To activate the bomb, the locking pin is removed and the bomb thrown. In about three seconds, the bomb should release gas that causes a short-term paralysis. Sarah Harding used the cholinesterase bomb to temporarily paralyze a pack of Velociraptors. Initially, the bomb didn’t go off, only exploding in a cloud of white smoke after one of the raptors bit into it. The length of the paralysis depends entirely on the wind, a fact which hastens the flight of Sarah and her companion Kelly Curtis.
