Called the Browning High-Power Hunting Rifle in-game, the BAR Safari is one of the more commonly-encountered rifles. Once the player has gotten a feel for the gun, it can be considered an all-around type of weapon, with its power, range, and accuracy. It has enough to power to bring down most “Tribe A” and “Tribe B” Velociraptors in one to three head-shots, although “Tribe C” raptors can take three to four shots. It carries ten rounds, although most real BAR Safaris only carry four, respectively. There is a considerable pause between each shot. There is some debate as to what the in-game caliber might be, as the real weapon comes is several varieties.
The BAR is a gas-operated semi-automatic rifle produced by the Browning Arms Company in Belgium and later in Japan. It should not be confused with the M1918 military rifle, also called the BAR, as they are both completely different in design and function.
It comes in several models: Safari, Long- and ShortTrac, and Lightweight Stalker.
The Safari is the most luxurious, having an engraved steel receiver and walnut stock. It is the only model with Browning BOSS (Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System), which reduces recoil and enhances accuracy.
Depending on the caliber, barrel lengths vary from 22 in. (559mm), 23 in. (584mm), and 24 in. (610mm).
