A tarpaulin is a large sheet made of any waterproof, resistant, strong or flexible material, and they are often used for protective purposes, whether it be sheltering equipment from the elements, use as a ground sheet while camping or simply concealing wear and tear or vandalism on objects.
In Jurassic Park, tarps are seen in the visitors’ center, likely acting as temporary ‘walls’ during the construction of the building. A Velociraptor was seen by Dr. Ellie Sattler emerging from a tarp into the visitors’ center, and shortly afterwards a Tyrannosaurus burst through a sheet, ripping it in the process.
