The Marlin Model 1895SBL was the preferred firearm of Jurassic World Velociraptor trainer Owen Grady. With a six-shot capacity magazine, and a total length of 37 inches, the rifle is a hefty firearm weighing in at approximately 8 pounds. Grady’s own rifle had a bandolier sling that carried six .45-70 Government soft-point rounds. Grady’s rifle also featured a Leopold Optics FX-II Scout IER 2.5x28mm scope attached to it,
Grady’s rifle was first seen with its owner soon after the Indominus rex escaped, and was carried with him throughout the time he and Claire Dearing were searching for Dearing’s nephews, Zach and Gray Mitchell. Although Dearing and Grady experienced many close calls with the Indominus during their search, Grady does not get to actually fire his weapon at the creature until Jurassic World head of security, Vic Hoskins, ordered a field test of the trained Velociraptors Blue, Charlie, Delta and Echo. In the ensuing entanglement, the Indominus was able to communicate a rebellion to the Raptors, who turned on their handler and slaughtered a group of InGen ACU agents. In the slaughter, Grady found Charlie and raised his rifle to shoot her before lowering it, only to watch the Raptor destroyed by a wayward rocket propelled grenade. After this, Owen met up with Dearing and the Mitchell brothers at the Innovation Center, where the quartet were chased by Delta through the facility and back out to the Main Street. There, they were ambushed by Echo and Blue. Grady placed the rifle on the ground in front of the trio. Ultimately, Grady was able to retake command of his Raptors, who assisted in the demise of the Indominus rex.
It is unknown what became of Grady’s rifle. It is possible that it remains on Isla Nublar, as it is not seen in Grady’s possession when he greets Dearing in the hanger on the Costa Rican mainland.
