One of the larger animals on Isla Sorna was Maiasaura peeblesorum, a hadrosaur. The maiasaurs had an established nesting ground where they laid their eggs and raised their young after they hatched. It was the Maiasaura nest that Lewis Dodgson, Howard King, and George Baselton found first after they arrived on Isla Sorna seeking dinosaur eggs. Luckily for them, the hadrosaur eggs had not yet hatched when they arrived. Using his sonic device, Dodgson and his cohorts stole two of the maiasaur eggs with little trouble. Later on, after Dodgson’s jeep came into the possession of Ian Malcolm and his group, they were surprised by the sudden appearance of the adult maiasaurs, which proceeded to completely destroy the car until two newborn hadrosaurs emerged; the eggs had hatched since Dodgson stole them.
