Langat Virus (C/N)

The Langat virus, abbreviated LGTV, belongs to the genus Flavivirus and was first isolated in Malaysia and Thailand. It is closely-related to Kyasanur forest disease. The virus itself does not pose a significant epidemological threat in comparison to tick-borne encephalitis virus, to which it is also related, and there are no known cases of human diseases associated with LGTV, though antibodies to the virus have been discovered in the sera of people in areas where it is present. The virus itself is relatively important in that a vaccine based on it was made to counteract tick-borne encephalitis.
