John Roxton (C/N)

John Roxton was a paleontologist working in Mongolia in the Flaming Cliffs region. He apparently was a colleague of Richard Levine, and invited him to the dig to identify a suspected new Velociraptor species (which Levine suspected was actually a Troodon).  Levine was very disparaging of Roxton, insulting his credentials and field experience. Although he described Roxton as an enthusiastic fund-raiser, Levine seemed to have a rather low opinion about him, despite apparently being on good enough terms to earn an invitation to his dig.

Roxton’s theory postulated that the Tyrannosaurus braincase and visual system was patterned after the manner of a frog, only registering motion. His theory was taken literally by George Baselton and Lewis Dodgson’s team, to Levine’s disgust, who claimed Roxton’s theory was a joke. It was heavily implied that Roxton lacked much basic knowledge of dinosaur biology in general due to his taxonomic and anatomic errors.
