Hemoglobin (C/N)

Hemoglobin is a protein in the red blood cells of all vertebrates and the tissues of some invertebrates which carries oxygen from the respiratory organs (lungs or gills) to the rest of the body, where the oxygen is released to burn nutrients and provide energy to power the organism’s body functions. The hemoglobin also collects the resulting carbon dioxide to bring back to the respiratory organs to be dispersed. In mammals, hemoglobin makes up about 97% of the dry content in red blood cells and 35% of its total content (including water).
