The Desert Eagle Mark VII, which is one of the first firearms the player gets the chance to use as well as one of the most common, is possibly one of the best pistols in the game. While there are other pistols that are more poweful than the Desert Eagle in the game, the power, range, accuracy, and proficiency make this a favorite. Usually, the player can down Velociraptors in two to five shots, with the exception of “Tribe C” raptors, which can take five or six rounds before dying. The magazine can hold eight rounds, so this weapon is not recomended for encounters with that variation of raptor if the player wishes to conserve ammo.
The Mark VII version, which is nickel-plated in-game, is basically a modifed Mark I, which is no longer produced. It differs primarily with the size and shape of the safety levers and catch. The Mark VII is offered in both .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum, the version in the game being .44, although the pistol itself reads “.50 A.E.”. The default is .41.
The barrel has a 3/8″ dovetail, to which an accessory can be attached.
Mark VII models are offered in 50 Action Express with a 7/8″ Weaver-pattern rail on the barrel; the .50 Mark VII would later become the Mark XIX platform. Barrel lengths are 6, 8, 10 and 14 inches.
