The “arm reptile” was discovered in Tanzania in 1903 and described by Elmer S. Riggs.
Brachiosaurus lived in the Late Jurassic Period about 156 to 151 million years ago, G. brancai lived about 150 to 145 million years ago. It grew to almost 22 and half meters (74ft) long (82 ft. in G. brancai), 15 and half meters (51ft) high (58 ft in G. brancai) and weighing as much as 77 tons. This particular species is now renamed to “Giraffatitan” brancai. The only valid species is B. altithorax. Brachiosaurus belongs to the family Brachiosauridae, and the infraorder Sauropoda.Unlike Jurassic Park, Brachiosaurus could not rear up on its hind limbs, as the lower portion of the body weighed less than the upper portion. Brachiosaurs could not chew their food, but rather swallow it and grind up the food via gizzards in the stomach. Brachiosaurus (altithorax) lived alongside Allosaurus, Barosaurus, and Apatosaurus. B. altithorax was found in the Morrison Formation and G. brancai was found in the Tendaguru Formation in Tanzania.
The species of Brachiosaurus is found on Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. It is a herbivore and is considered one of the gentler inhabitants of InGen‘s islands. The differences in color between Brachiosaurus of the films are believed to accent the different sexes of the animal: males are the most vibrant in color while the females are duller in color or missing red on their crest. There is other possibilities for the differences with the Brachiosaurus such as being different species and/or they are all possibly different versions of the same animal like with the case with the Velociraptor and Pteranodon. This is a similar case with the Parasaurolophus. Both, however, have rounded pupils.
During the abandonment of Isla Nublar, prior to the construction of the Jurassic World theme park, the Brachiosaurus rarely left their own paddock, however the female Tyrannosaurus rex did unsuccessfully attempt to hunt them. One died due to malnutrition, which the T. rex scavenged. For the Jurassic World theme park, an attraction called “Treetop Gazers” featuring the Brachiosaurus was planned, however never came to fruition before the park was permanently closed and abandoned following an incident with the upcoming Indominus rex attraction. When the park was closed, the Brachiosaurus were left to roam the island freely.
Two Brachiosaurus were caught on camera in a 2018 BBC news segment regarding the danger to the dinosaurs caused by the eruption of Mt. Sibo. A lone Brachiosaur was also seen wandering the ruins of Main Street during the expedition co-sponsored by the Benjamin Lockwood and the Dinosaur Protection Group. Brachiosaurs were not one of the species smuggled off of the Island, and the species experienced a second, and final extinction. As the ship Arcadia departed the island, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing were forced to watch a lone Brachiosaur trapped on the docks, without a means to escape the lava, before it finally succumbed to the flames.
