Bell Helicopter (C/N)

Bell Helicopter is a rotorcraft manufacturer and subsidiary of Textron that is based in Hurst, Texas. Bell manufactures military helicopters and tiltrotor vehicles around Ft. Worth and Amarillo, Texas. Their division in Mirabel, Canada produces commercial craft. Bell provides training and support services. Bell Aircraft Corporation was founded in 1935 and Bell Aerospace–the only active remaining branch of the company–was purchased by Textron in 1960.

Scientists considered working for organizations–even as prestigious as Bell–as a waste of talent and time until April 1976 when Robert Swanson recruited biochemist Herbert Boyer from the University of California, San Francisco for Genentech.
